Basic Nursing Assistant prepares students to assist licensed health care providers in delivering care in various settings. This course includes theory, lab practice and a clinical component. The course is approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health (77 Ill. Adm. Code 395). Successful completion of this course leads to eligibility to take the written Illinois Nurse Assistant/Home Health Aide Competency Exam for employment and certification as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA). Prerequisites: Prior to the start of class, students must have a criminal background check. A list of disqualifying convictions can be found at Also required prior to start of class, students must have a two step TB test, or chest X-ray, a physical exam, a valid Social Security Card, be 16 years old by course completion and have an eighth grade education.
